New Year's Eve 5k

 December 31, 2010

Yeah some people got all glitzy tonight, we got sweaty.  This is what happens when you don't plan in advance for a babysitter on New Year''s Eve.

Actually we didn't plan this either until another Kaz Mom, Melissa Scott sent me a message asking if I would run.  It is after all in my home town.  Since running a half marathon is on my unfinished 2010 resolution list and since I haven't run in over a month it seemed like a good way to get my butt back in gear.  So glad I did because it was fun and a wake up call too.  No more month long hiatuses for me!

To make this extra special Dart, my non runner hubby ran with me (ok he ran/walked somewhere behind me but still he supported me 100%).  Yeah, he's pretty great that way **swoon**.

800 runners and I wasn't even last!
Ladies, he taken.

Game On...

 December 28, 2010

We are a hockey family.  And yesterday Dad decided it was high time to teach the girls to skate.  They are both four now, almost a year behind the curve for team Printy. Slackers. Of course I would love to have a pair of figure skaters but that's just crazy talk in our house.  I'll have to settle for pink skate laces.  Both girls really liked it but ended up getting cold.  Maybe next time we'll try an indoor rink.
What a cool big brother!

Merry Christmas Morning from The Printy's

 December 25, 2010

Matching Christmas jammies...a long standing, moderately embarrassing Printy family tradition. As a friend pointed out, we now have so many kids in the family we need to label them!
Believe it or not I've never had a kid wake up early on Christmas morning, until now.  The boys are laid back, type B minus, master chillaxers.  On Christmas morning I am always the first one to wake so I have time to go downstairs and make the cinnamon rolls and coffee and mimosas.  I light candles and the fireplace.  I turn on Christmas music and when the scene is perfectly set, usually at the civilized time of 9or 9:30 in the morning, I go back up stairs and wake the boys (Dart included).  Well not so this year.  This year was the year of A plus, plus, rise a dawn, sneak down the stairs, girl power patrol!

Yes this year it was all different. It was of course Macy's first Christmas at home but really it was Nina's too, (we were in Kazakhstan and the Mediterranean the two years prior).  Anyway the excitement of Santa got the best of her and Nina woke up and headed down to check out the situation on her own.  Sadly I did not get the photo of her coming down the stairs in her Christmas jammies nor did I get the look of awe and amazement when she first saw the piles of presents on the tree.  Nope what I got was the report; "Mommy, the Grinch did not steal our tree" she whispered as I tried to pry my eyes open. "Mommy Santa brought me a shopping cart, come see, come see".  The realization that I missed it washed over me as I pulled myself out of bed.  I couldn't be too disappointed though because Nina was practically vibrating with excitement.

After a mad dash to get everything in order the official processional down the stairs was begun.  We got it all on video; Macy's wide eyes, the boys fist pumps and somehow Nina's awestruck face, like she was seeing it all for the first time again: the magic of Christmas still intact.

Still now I know better Nina Bea, I am on to you.  Next year I am going to set the alarm good and early.  No more lazing around with the B team.  The morning crew is in town now and they could care less about protocol or tradition or cinnamon rolls! Next year I will be blurry eyed but ready, (either that or I am locking you in your room).

I guess we were all on the "NICE" list...but I promise it was close for a few Printy's who shall go nameless.

Ahhh the #1 thing on the girls list, SHOPPING CARTS!!

Mama needs her coffee, while Nina Bea samples the eggnog.

Aidan's favorite gift this year...anything World of Warcraft (ugh).

I think Nina would have been happy just to get the stocking...this child loves her chocolate (just like her mommy).

American Girl doll Julie, best friend to AGD Ivy and only slightly shorter than Nina.

My awesome, thoughtful husband got me an ornament to mark the occasion of Macy's first Christmas.  After four years of "waiting for my China baby" ornaments, this was very meaningful. (yup I'm crying here.)

Macy (my American Girl Doll) with her AG Ivy doll (Julie's Chinese best friend).  I bought this years ago in New York when we were still waiting for our China baby and couldn't even spell Kazakhstan.

My smiley Nolan was happy with every gift...his favorite, an IPOD Touch.
My sweet niece Courtney home on leave from the Air Force.  She is stationed in Phoenix and was in Korea this year so we were very happy she could be home for the holidays.

Can't take the kid out of Kiefer (even if he does look like Grizzly Adams).  He loved his mixing board.

Of course Christmas is also Nina's birthday.  After all the celebrating we almost forgot the cake...

...but we remembered right before bedtime.  Happy 4th Birthday Nina Bea!

In Honor of Princess Nina Beatrice...

 December 20, 2010

We started Nina's 4th birthday party with a trip to Bippity Boppity Boutique for a princess makeover.

Snow White is Nina's favorite...I thought she made a darling Snow White at this point but hair and makeup were still to come and oh boy was the hair something!

Macy opted for Sleeping Beauty....she and Nina both were nervous about the whole deal.

Here are my two Princesses mid makeover. At this point both girls wanted to leave.  Honestly it was a bit overwhelming for them...4 might have been to young but we pressed on.

Here is where it got 'ugly", this woman is showing Nina her options for hair and of course Nina chose the PINK hair. So much for the simple bun I asked them to do.

Finally after our makeover we met up with three other Kaz Princesses for lunch at the castle.  We almost go everyone in the picture.  Macy was again nervous about meeting Cinderella.

...but eventually she came around.

The kaz mamas wore their crowns for the occasion too.

Most darling princesses at court!

Macy and Sadie were so exited to have "their" princess stop by our table.

Here is a shot to show the moms in action...really I'm not sure who was more excited the moms or the kids.

It's her party and she can sleep if she wants to!

Later that night we went back to our hotel room to catch up with one another.  These women are not just the princesses moms they are some of my best friends and I was thrilled to get together with them.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

 December 19, 2010

We met up with a few of my absolute favorite people in Disney for the Mickey Christmas Party.  It was so much fun, mostly because of the awesome company we shared.  Since I could not recap the event any better than my perfect EMO friend Susan did, I'm just going to share the link to her awesome post on the evening.

Merriest Moms (and Dad) in the park! (Although I am pretty sure Susan was crying tears of joy by this point.)

A heroic act of bravery!

Yup, we got moves!

Sadie loves to dance and Nina had fun too as long as the horse kept it's distance.

Dance party Printy's....I think Nina is snapping her fingers, no idea what I'm doing???

Mom's of the year out with the kids until 2am...Kristan (blond), Susan and Lori (pineapples-brown on the outside, blond on the inside), we are perfectly matched in our "perfectness" (cough, cough)

Mini Reunion with the Senhauser Girls

We traveled with the Senhauser's to China this spring.  Ironically we each were adopting 3 year old girls, from Guizhou Province and were naming them Macy/Macie.  We were very excited to be able to have a quick lunch time reunion in Celebration FL with Holly, Maddie and Macie Joy.  It was fun to see my Macy and Maddie pick up right where they left off in China; hand holding BFF's!  And Macie Joy has blossomed, she even snuggled up with me and played for a while.  It is amazing to see what love can do for our children.  There is something about adoption travel that creates a unique bond between families.  It filled my heart to see little Macie doing so well and her family so happy.  What a blessing.
