Heading to Haiti
October 4, 2012
I'm in New York about to grab a taxi to JFK for a direct flight to Port Au Prince Haiti.
I know what you're thinking....she's adopting another kid????
Nope not this time!!!
This time I'm working on a project to build an emergency department and train Haitian physicians in emergency medicine skills.
I am thrilled to be part of this project. I love that we will have the opportunity to make a concrete long lasting impact. One of the frustrations with short term mission trips is its hard to see the difference you made and its balanced with the potential of doing real harm. Not the case with this project.
I know there are lots of adoptive families with kids from Haiti so I'm going to try to take lots of photos and blog updates while there. BUT as always with third world travel Internet may be limited. If I'm blocked I promise to catch you all up when I get back
Wish me luck on the project .....and my weak tummy. I'm already queasy from the anti malaria meds I'm taking and I'm told we will have a mountainous four hour drive to the hospital-they have already warned us to take Dramamine. Yummy.
More soon. I hope:)
